Help us find fir-ever homes for trees in our priority neighborhoods like Hilltop, Eastside, South End and South Tacoma neighborhoods.

Branch Out is a tree giveaway collaboration between multiple community partners to collectively grow the Tacoma-area urban forest. Our intent is to uplift and call out the intersection of trees, human health, equity, and community building. Past and present community partners with Tacoma Tree Foundation include: Homeownership Center NW, Valeo Vocation, VFW McKinley, SunAlliance, Tacoma Public Schools, Pierce Conservation District, City of Tacoma Urban Forestry Program, and Pierce County Parks. Funding for Branch Out is provided by the City of Tacoma and the Community Tree Program.

We believe that everyone deserves tree-lined streets, but Tacoma’s tree canopy is distributed unevenly. Each Branch Out tree that is planted in our focus neighborhoods helps close the tree equity gap, helping all of Tacoma’s communities grow healthier, happier, and grittier in the face of pollution and extreme weather.

Residents in our focus neighborhoods can sign up to receive FREE TREES for their property in November, as well as request planting support from our volunteer teams. If you’re not sure that you’re eligible for our focus neighborhoods, submit a tree request anyway and our organizers will let you know.

Tree species are dependent on availability. We will be offering large shade trees, utility-friendly trees, evergreen and deciduous trees, and a limited number of fruit trees, along with resources from Harvest Pierce County.

Promote Branch out by becoming your neighborhood’s Tree Steward

Tree Stewards are community tree champions who help grow and protect Tacoma’s urban canopy. Through our free training program, stewards learn proper planting techniques, tree care best practices, local regulations, and how to answer tree-related questions.

Tree Stewards help the Foundation implement and maintain neighborhood plantings. By sharing their expertise with neighbors, Stewards also support the Foundation’s mission to educate and empower community members in the Tacoma area and, in the long term, they help preserve the city’s urban forest.

September 21st 9am-4pm @ Eastside Community Center
